Tithing and Salvation

We had our best group meeting yet, in my opinion, this week. We were discussing the issue of tithing. As we were talking about the passages on tithing in the book of Malachi, one of the guys in our group spoke up and asked, “How much is enough? When is God ever satisfied?” This guy (and several others) grew up in a non-evangelical denomination and has never really heard much about the “grace through faith” concept. I was able to go into a simple Gospel presentation that my friend Greg Stier from Dare2Share ministries developed, with a little bit of Campus Crusade for Christ terminology mixed in. It’s a nice acronym.

God created us to have a personal relationship with Him and he has an incredible plan for our lives.

Our sin separates us from God and we can’t know and experience God’s love and plan for us because of that sin.

Sin cannot be removed by any of our good deeds.

Paying the price for our sin, Jesus died on the cross and rose again conquering death and hell.

Everyone who trusts in Jesus alone for their salvation and forgiveness of sin will inherit eternal life. Through this we can know and experience God’s love and plan for us.

Life eternal means will live in Heaven when we die, but it also means God is in our life now showing us his plan for our lives.

I could tell there were several in our group soaking the simple story of the Gospel in.

It was amazing that we went from giving money to God to giving one’s life to God.

I can’t wait to see what God does in our group this week as we talk about forgiveness from Matthew 18:21-35.
